Federal Policy

Our economy is held back by a skills gap – not enough workers trained with the skills for jobs that employers need to fill in order to thrive and grow.

This gap is in the middle – jobs that require a credential beyond high school, but not a four-year degree. For individuals who are unemployed or in low-wage jobs, education and training can provide an opportunity to move into family supporting middle-skill jobs.

National Skills Coalition analyzes, develops, and advances federal policies that lead to greater and more effective investments in the skills of America’s workforce. Through our federal policy work, we seek to support strategies that are effective at helping businesses and workers succeed, including sector partnerships, career pathways, improved data and credential measurement, and more job-driven investments.

This section provides analysis and proposals across a wide range of federal policies that can be leveraged and aligned to ensure that every worker and every industry has the skills to compete and prosper.
