Mauricio Garcia is the Senior Vice President for Programs at UnidosUS, the nation’s largest Latino civil rights and advocacy organization that fights to close critical inequities for Latinos facing multiple barriers to opportunity. In this role, he oversees UnidosUS’s programmatic efforts across four core issue areas—education, health, housing & financial empowerment, and workforce development—in partnership with the over 300 affiliates from across the country. For nearly 20 years, Mauricio has worked at the intersection of civil society, government, and the private sector to strengthen our communities and strive for social and economic justice.
Prior to UnidosUS, Mauricio served as Chief Program & Engagement Officer at Friends of the High Line, a nonprofit organization and a public park on the West Side of Manhattan in New York City, where he oversaw its local and national place-based initiatives, including the High Line Network. He also served as Deputy Director at Cities of Service, now an initiative of the Bloomberg Center for Public Innovation, where he led a team that provided technical assistance and training to municipal leaders across the Americas and Europe to effectively engage with historically marginalized and overlooked communities to solve critical challenges. Mauricio has also held leadership positions at Seedco, Change Machine, and LISC.
Mauricio received a master’s degree in public administration from the City University of New York’s Baruch College and a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Oakland University. He is a member of the Board of Directors of the nonprofit news organization Next City and a proud graduate of the Coro Leadership New York program. Mauricio is originally from the Detroit area and lives in Jackson Heights, Queens.
