OH Gov announces system alignment proposal.

By Jessie Leslie, March 13, 2014

Ohio Governor John Kasich announced his administration’s workforce development proposals as part of their 2014 Mid-Biennium Review. The recommendations focus on system alignment, including an integrated state workforce plan, more consistent cross-agency metrics and a comprehensive inventory of education and training programs throughout the state. The proposal also includes a pathways pilot project through the community and technical colleges that would provide adults with both a high school diploma and vocational credential.

National Skills Coalition strongly supports state efforts to better measure the credential attainment outcomes of the workforce system across agencies. The Ohio Workforce Coalition (OWC), which has actively worked at the state level to encourage strategic policies and investments to support job-driven training, responded to the proposals as “…a step in the right direction.” NSC and OWC look forward to continuing to work with the administration and other state policymakers to enact job training and education policies that support the skill needs of Ohio’s workers and employers.
