How can California help laid-off retail workers find jobs? This state’s approach may work

National Skills Coalition Senior Fellow, Amanda Bergson-Shilcock was quoted an article about COVID-19’s effect on the retail industry. Some states, including Wisconsin, are building new programs designed to help former retail workers find new, better-paying careers.  

The federal government’s Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act provides funding to train about 130,000 laid-off workers annually, said Bergson-Shilcock, a senior fellow at National Skills Coalition. But tens of millions lost their jobs in the U.S. during the pandemic.
