Business Leader’s United member, Traci Tapani was quoted in a Washington Monthly article discussing the need to extend Pell grants to people taking high-quality, short-term job training programs. Tapani is the co-president of a small metal fabrication company called Wyoming Machine Inc. In north Minneapolis.
In this article she argues that workers can learn the basics of the work in the classroom and complete on-the-job training with Tapani’s company. Tapani says, “…It’s proven to be a very successful way to take people who have little or no skill and quickly get them to the point where they can be contributors in a company that would otherwise struggle to fill its open positions.”
