NSC CEO Andy Van Kleunen was recently quoted in a POLITICO article about the need to build an inclusive economic recovery by making significant investments in skills training. “Let’s build back better by including everyone,” Van Kleunen told POLITICO. “That means ensuring people’s essential needs are met while they train for newly created jobs, new industries and technologies.”
NSC’s federal policy agenda for President Biden and Congress includes establishing Dislocation Reskilling Accounts of up to $15,000 per worker to invest in training at a community or technical college or community-based organization; expanding access to child care, transportation assistance and other support services for all displaced workers; creating a federal Reemployment Distribution Fund to expand income assistance for displaced workers; and establishing a $20 billion Workforce Trust Fund as part of any infrastructure package, along with incentives to train and hire women and people of color who have been excluded and underrepresented in the past.
