WASHINGTON, DC – March 6, 2023 –National Skills Coalition (NSC) adamantly supports the nomination of longstanding partner and advocate for working people, Deputy Labor Secretary Julie Su, to become the nation’s next Labor Secretary. NSC commends President Biden’s nomination of Julie Su to become the next Labor Secretary. Deputy Secretary Su’s commitment to racial equity, immigrant inclusion, and economic opportunity will help ensure that the Department of Labor is advancing policies that contribute to a more inclusive economy.
At NSC’s 2021 Skills in the States Forum, Deputy Secretary Su spoke about the Department of Labor’s focus on putting equity and job quality at the center of how we build and support workforce partnerships that bring workers, businesses, labor, training providers, and community organizations together. Her work with High Road Training Partnerships in California is a model for this kind of work across the country, and her leadership laid the groundwork for a ‘future proof’ California by creating a strong, innovative, competitive, and sustainable economy that creates opportunities for all.

We are grateful for outgoing Secretary Marty Walsh’s stalwart commitment to skills training and job quality. His expertise, background in organized labor, and keen insight as a former Mayor of Boston enabled him to forge partnerships between the Departments of Labor, Commerce, and Education that brought high-quality, equitable job training and career pathways to more workers and industries across the country.
Deputy Secretary Su’s voice will be a vital one in the role of Labor Secretary. We look forward to her confirmation and continuing to build on our work together to create a national commitment to inclusive, high-quality skills training.
